The Umbrella Brigade (TUB) is a community-powered nonprofit rooted in mutual aid, food justice, and the belief that everyone deserves access to healthy food and basic necessities with dignity.

Founded in 2022, TUB exists to remove barriers to essential resources by providing a free, choice-based community market where neighbors shop for groceries, hygiene products, household essentials, clothing, and more without spending a dollar. Unlike traditional food pantries that distribute pre-packed bags, our Choice Market Model allows every person to select the foods that meet their family's needs, dietary preferences, and cultural traditions. We believe choice is dignity.

Our work is grounded in the principles of food sovereignty the idea that communities should have the power to determine how they access and enjoy nutritious, culturally appropriate food. We know that when families don't have to choose between groceries and rent, medication, utilities, or transportation, they gain the freedom to build greater financial stability. Every dollar saved at TUB is a dollar that can stay in a household budget for life's other essential expenses.

Beyond food, TUB connects neighbors to clothing, hygiene supplies, household supplies, technology access, home deliveries for those facing transportation barriers, harm reduction resources, and community referrals. We believe that addressing food insecurity requires more than providing meals it requires creating equitable systems that empower people and strengthen communities.
